This was a pamphlet advertising Superior. Printed in 1859 in Philadelphia, it was written by James S. Ritchie from Superior “at the request of many residents of the City of Superior, who believe that the advantages afforded by this place, and surrounding region, are very insufficiently known to those desirous of emigrating to the West”.
It was written during the nationwide recession caused by the panic of 1857, so the town proprietors and local businesses likely hoped it would drum up workers and business.
